What We Believe
We believe in:
One true and living God, who exists eternally as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The sovereignty, love and grace of God, shown in His creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging of the world.
The Old and New Testament Scriptures as the written Word of God, divinely inspired, supremely authoritative and wholly reliable for what we believe and how we live.
The dignity of every human being, made male and female in the image of God to love Him, to be holy, and to care for creation — yet fallen into sin, and so subject to His righteous judgment.
The incarnation of the eternal Son of God, Jesus Christ, born of the virgin Mary, fully divine and fully human, and without sin.
The atoning death of Christ upon the cross, where He took our place, paid the cost of our sin, overcame the powers of evil, and reconciled us to God.
The bodily resurrection of Christ as the first fruits of our own, His ascension to the Father, and His present reign and intercession as the world’s only Saviour.
The justification of sinners by the grace of God alone, received through faith in Christ alone.
The work of God the Holy Spirit, who brings us to repentance, joins us to Christ in new birth, forms us as disciples and equips us to bear witness.
The church, the body of Christ in every place and in all ages, a priesthood of all believers, given life and gifts by the Spirit to worship God, proclaim the gospel, and pursue justice and love.
The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to complete God’s purposes, raising all people to judgment, granting eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establishing a new heaven and a new earth.
In addition, as an institution we affirm:
That the gifts of the Holy Spirit continue in the church today for its building up and for its witness.
The baptism of believers and the ongoing observance of the Lord’s Supper as the ordinances given by Christ to His church.
Our practices
As an institution serving the church, we express these beliefs through the worship, prayer and praise of God; through the reading, teaching and study of Holy Scripture as the centre of our common life; through participation in the life of local congregations; through whole-life discipleship and the pursuit of holiness; through witness to Jesus Christ in word and deed; and through compassionate service to our neighbours and to those in need, without distinction.
